Digital Literacy

Learn what digital literacy means, how to use digital devices with confidence, and how the right tools can save you time and help you reach more people. Along the way, you'll also learn how to protect your clients' information, spot misinformation, and stay safe online.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain what digital literacy is and describe why it matters for your work as a community health worker.
  • Set up, navigate, and use a digital device safely and confidently.
  • Organize, store, and protect the information you collect every day, and find trustworthy health information online.
  • Use digital tools to communicate effectively and create content that reaches the people in your community.
  • Stay safe online, protect your clients' personal information, and model good digital habits for the people around you.
  • Work through common technology problems on your own and know when and how to ask for help.

AI Literacy

Learn what AI is, how it's already changing healthcare, and how it can support your work every day. Explore tools that save time on paperwork and help you reach more clients, and learn to use them safely and responsibly.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain what artificial intelligence is and recognize where it already shows up in your work.
  • Describe how AI is changing healthcare for the people you serve and your community.
  • Use AI tools to save time on tasks like notes, caseload management, and health materials.
  • Recognize what AI cannot do, and why your judgment and community knowledge matter most.
  • Use AI tools responsibly by checking information, protecting client data, and speaking up when something seems wrong.
  • Write a clear prompt to get useful results, and know what to do when they are not good enough.

Human-centered and intentionally designed

Key Informant Interviews

We worked closely with international health organizations and community health workers to understand technology access, perceptions of digital tools, use cases, and more.

Ideation Workshops

CHWs helped shape course content, identifying technology knowledge and skill gaps and ensuring every module is reflective of realities facing healthcare delivery.

CHW Tested

Both courses were piloted and refined with CHWs across various geographic contexts, in low-bandwidth environments, and on a variety of devices and digital tools.
